What is Clinical Hypnotherapy?

Clinical hypnotherapy is a therapeutic approach that uses guided relaxation and focused attention to help you access your subconscious mind. In this naturally calm, focused state, your mind becomes more open to positive suggestions and insights that support healing and change.

Unlike stage hypnosis, clinical hypnotherapy is a collaborative process where you remain aware and in control throughout. It works by helping you bypass the critical, analytical part of your mind to address underlying patterns, beliefs, and behaviors that may be contributing to your concerns.

This evidence-based therapy can effectively treat anxiety, depression, phobias, pain management, sleep issues, and various other conditions by working directly with the part of your mind where lasting change occurs.

 FAQs

  • Hypnotherapy can be effective for a wide range of concerns including anxiety, stress management, phobias, smoking cessation, weight management, sleep issues, pain management, and building confidence. It's also helpful for breaking unwanted habits and enhancing performance in various areas of life.

  • Hypnotherapy works directly with your subconscious mind, where automatic behaviors and deep beliefs are stored. While other therapies focus on conscious discussion, hypnotherapy uses a relaxed, focused state to access and change these deeper patterns. This makes it particularly effective for habits, phobias, and issues that feel "automatic." Many clients find the process itself deeply relaxing and restorative.

  • No, you remain fully in control during hypnotherapy. You cannot be made to do anything against your will or moral values. You'll be aware of what's happening and can choose to accept or reject any suggestions. You won't reveal information you don't want to share, and you can emerge from hypnosis at any time.

  • I offer tailored session lengths to best support your unique healing journey:

    • Initial Consultation: Your first session is typically two hours in duration. This allows us ample time to get to know each other, deeply explore your current experiences, and begin to formulate a personalised plan for moving forward. This initial consultation is designed to be highly therapeutic in itself, and I don't introduce formal hypnosis during this foundational meeting.

    • Follow-Up Sessions (1.5 hours): For ongoing therapeutic work, I offer one-and-a-half-hour (90-minute) follow-upsessions. This allows for a good balance of in-depth work, integrating modalities like Clinical Hypnotherapy, Somatic Experiencing (SE), and Mindfulness, with consistent progress.

    • Follow-Up Sessions (2 hours): For those seeking more profound immersion or needing extra time to process complex issues at their own pace, I provide two-hour follow-up sessions. This extended timeframe offers the spaciousness required for deeper trauma renegotiation, significant anxiety relief, and comprehensive depression support, fostering true mind-body freedom and lasting well-being.

My goal is to provide the dedicated time you need for effective and gentle therapeutic work that truly supports your healing journey.

  • The number of sessions varies depending on your individual goals and the issue being addressed. Some people see results after just a few sessions, while others may benefit from ongoing support. During your initial consultation, we'll discuss realistic expectations and create a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Initial Consult: Clarity & Compass (2 hours): A deeply therapeutic consultation where we'll identify your core issue and its underlying causes. You'll have the chance to ask questions, share expectations, and assess your suitability for hypnosis. You'll leave with valuable self-insights and a clear path forward to a healthier, happier you. This session focuses on discovery—hypnosis begins in follow-up sessions.

Healing Sessions (1.5 hour follow-up): With your foundation established, these focused sessions address your specific concerns and introduce Somatic Experiencing and clinical hypnosis techniques as powerful tools for your ongoing healing. Your ability to work with hypnosis will strengthen with each session.
